Description
This is not a new chair, but a painted old one, see ‘Cadair Ceffn Ffyn Cymraeg’
Traditionally, many chairs were painted to protect the wood from the elements.
Many antique Welsh and Irish stick chairs are often seen with many layers of paint. By the time they end up in an auction, they haven’t had a fresh coat in quite some time.
This is how the chairs we see in museums may have once looked.
